Paper Topics

Almost any of the major subheadings from our textbook:

Anderson, J. R. (1993). Cognitive Psychology and Its Implications. W.H. Freeman and Company: New York, NY.

would be appropriate for a paper topic. The major topics that I will be stressing in my part of the course will be memory and problem solving issues (chapters 5 through 9, and chapter 13 to some extent), whereas the language and reasoning chapters (10 through 12) will receive less coverage. Chapters 3 and 4 (attention and perceptionbased knowledge representations) will get "middling" coverage. An annotated list of these headings is provided.

Tentative Schedule

Below is the tentative schedule for my part of the class. We will be going through most of the book in a relatively short amount of time, so it is important that you keep up with the reading. In trying to balance breadth v. depth, I have assigned whole chapters for most days, but in class we will only have time to talk about one or two topics, which are highlighted in the italicized line for each day. However, come to class with questions on any part of the chapter, and of course, be prepared to be tested on it.
